Mendip Care and Repair

The Handyperson Service

IN GENERAL

We are able to offer a range of mobile services designed to help around the home. They range from our Handyperson Service for odd jobs and small repairs, a Gardening Service for mowing grass to low maintenance changes, and a Decorating Service for minor paint works or a whole room.

Who is eligible?

All services are available to older or disabled homeowners and private tenants, or those with limited finances. A simple telephone call will tell you if you are eligible to benefit from the service. Referrals can be taken from individuals or through agencies such as Age Concern, Citizens Advice Bureau or Social Services.

Is there a charge?

Yes, these subsidised services are primarily funded by charities with some assistance from the local authority. However, it costs around £120,000 a year to run these services and whilst we are able to subsidise the cost by donations from charitable trusts we still ask for help towards the running cost of the service.

THE HANDYPERSON SERVICE

The Handyperson can carry out most small repairs and odd jobs around the home,  works  such as; minor plumbing, repairs to doors and windows, fitting curtain rails, fitting locks, cleaning gutters, repairs to fencing, fitting grab rails and much more. Larger works (more than 1 day) could also be undertaken; we would provide you with a quotation for this type of work.

How much will it cost me?

We do not charge a call out fee, however we charge £14.10 for the first hour's work (minimum charge) and £9.40 thereafter plus £3.50 towards the travel costs. We will also charge you for any materials used. On completion of the work we will send you an invoice, if you cannot afford these charges in one go we can make arrangements to spread the cost over several weeks. Prices include VAT.

Jobs the Handyperson cannot do

Repairing of domestic appliances.

Work that requires a qualified electrician or a CORGI registered plumber.

Work that is over two stories high.

Major housing defects, too large for the Handyperson to undertake can be referred to our technical staff. You may be eligible for grant assistance towards the cost.
